Martina is back from her holidays and is feeling refreshed and John has returned from swanning around Italy – he loved every minute! Niamh is currently living it up in Portugal while Emily is jetting off there any minute now. Elaine is looking forward to Susan’s 3rd birthday bash and her own few days away also.
Out and about:
John had the most amazing time in Italy. During his travels, he was in Venice, Naples, Sorrento and Capri – which came top of the list! In fact, he said Capri “is one of the most amazing places I’ve been to”. So there you go now!
But the fun didn’t stop there for John! No sooner was he back from Italy before he was heading off again, this time to Ballymoney in Wexford for a family gathering – there were about 30 of them. It was a really special time with lots of food, drink and singing! He also went for a dip Sunday morning in the rain but didn’t send us a photo 🙁
Emily had a family-filled weekend in Tipp also, complete with bouncy castle so you can imagine the mayhem! She loved seeing all her brothers and sisters home together again. As mentioned last week, they went for a gorgeous meal in The Anner Hotel – she went for the pork belly which, she said, was delish.
It was a full on barbeque the next day with the posh crockery and fancy napkins on show! The sun shone and the craic was had. Emily and her sister Carmel were “flat to the mat” making loads of salads. The boys weren’t let off the hook though, her brother Ciaran was on barbeque duty! Emily got great praise for her waldorf salad – a new career calling?
Elaine went along to see Belle and Sebastian in the Iveagh Gardens and had a blast. She’s seen them a few times before but they are sounding even better now and as she hadn’t been to a gig in ages she enjoyed it no-end! The venue was great and the weather was kind, so she felt like she was on holidays! All-in-all a very pleasant evening was had 🙂
On the screen:
Elaine is still trawling through The Sopranos and is completely engrossed but trying to pace herself. John is watching the final season of Orphan Black which he says is “too difficult to begin to explain” but if you like sci-fi / mystery he recommends it. Tatiana Maslany is the lead actress and plays seven different characters in it (!) and she finally won an Emmy for her performance last year.
Emily kept things a little more traditional and tuned in to the Tipp v Clare hurling match on Saturday and was pleased with a Tipp win. That being said though, she wasn’t overly convinced by their performance (she doesn’t think they’re going to get the back-to-back win) and is gutted she’s missing the semi-final as she’s dying for a day out in Croker! We’re pretty confident she’ll get over it okay while she’s sipping a cocktail elsewhere!
Both Emily and Niamh (and about 90% of the population) are devastated that Love Island is over. Everyone is at a loss now to fill their evenings – it’s left a huge heart shaped hole in their lives! The only solution now is to go online to find out who actually lasts the distance!
On the plate:
This week we’ve all been pretty low-key when it comes to eating out (pay day on the way!) but not John – he was luxuriating in the beautiful surrounds of Marlfield House just outside of Gorey in Wexford. He was there for late lunch in The Duck Terrace Restaurant and highly recommends it. The house is a popular wedding venue with beautiful grounds. You can walk around, once there’s no wedding taking place, and there’s a veg patch and horses too!
Looking forward to…
Elaine is looking forward to being knee-deep in rice krispie buns, marshmallows and cake this weekend for Susan’s 3rd birthday party. She’s also excited about the return of the Rathdrum International Cartoon Festival this weekend for its 25th anniversary celebrations!
Emily is looking forward to a much-deserved holidays – bon voyage!
Have a gorgeous weekend from all at #TeamAlice
