Three months ago, Modjina Ovil joined Alice PR as an intern from New Jersey. Modjina is a senior college student pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in PR, with a focus on event planning and production. Modjina got involved in everything going on at Alice PR, from events and photo calls to issuing press materials and online communications. She recounts her experience in today’s blog. We were delighted to work with her and wish her every success with her studies and career.
It seems like it was just yesterday when I had my Skype interview with Martina and Niamh for an internship with Alice PR & Events. Within the first couple of weeks of work, I had gotten stuck right in and gained a lot of experience within the PR industry.
During my time with Alice PR, I’ve enjoyed attending launches, working closely with Dress for Success Dublin and overall being a part of a wonderful team. One of my favourite projects that I’ve been involved with was helping Dress for Success Dublin to pick out the appropriate attire, shoes and accessories for their clients.
Perhaps my greatest accomplishment during my time in Alice PR was understanding the areas in PR that I wasn’t comfortable with but realise now that I can work and build on them. I also found out where my passion really lies – coordinating events and making sure everything is functioning well. I like to get stuck in!
I also loved the fact that I was able to hold down a job while abroad. One of the important criteria for me when choosing my desired location to study abroad was to be in an English-speaking country with affordable living areas for students, relatively small in size, as well as being a friendly and safe space. Ireland happened to tick all of those boxes and as an added bonus is that Dublin is full of life! Street performances, the cool fresh air that blows as you’re strolling down the river Liffey, and enjoying a meal (my current favourite is stuffed Gaelic chicken served on top of mash) in traditional Irish pubs with live music were some of my highlights.
Outside of Dublin, I’ve visited the famous Cliffs of Moher, Malahide Castle, walked the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, and visited Titanic Belfast. I was also fortunate enough to visit Barcelona and Paris a few weeks ago and travelling helped me see that there is more to the world than New Jersey!
To this day, it still seems unreal that I am living, working and studying in Dublin. It has been a desire of mine to visit Ireland for a long time so I am proud to have achieved that and I am looking forward to visiting again.
My experiences with Alice PR have been wonderful – I’ll always remember the lessons I’ve learned and the professional relationships I’ve built here.
Reflecting back on my time here, it’s been an exciting trip. I knew from the start that I’d made the best decision in accepting this internship offer. Thank you Alice PR for everything!
