As PR professionals, we’re rarely without our smartphones. There are some fantastic apps out there that make our jobs a bit easier – here’s our top five apps that we can’t live without.

Instagram: With over 800 million monthly active users, Instagram is an obvious choice. It’s our favourite for staying in touch with bloggers and influencers as well as enjoying some the fabulous pics from our favourite press photographers.

Slack: We’re big fans of Slack here at Alice PR. It is a “team messaging service” which allows you to share instant messages and files. At Alice, some of our team work remotely so Slack allows us to be in touch all the time. We love how it cuts down on the amount of internal emails we send and makes it much quicker and more efficient to communicate with team-mates. A great way to share and “crowd-source” info too, and conversations are searchable, which can be super handy!

flipboard top apps for pr professionalsFlipboard: We use the Irish media apps daily like TheJournal.ie, RTE News Now and The Irish Times but sometimes it’s great to have all your news in one place. Flipboard is a news aggregator which allows you to select your areas of interest and shows the latest news about that subject. You can chose anything from ‘celebrity news’ to ‘technology’ or ‘business’. It’s a great way of staying on top of latest developments and finding out about stuff that will have a direct impact on our clients, as soon as it happens.

Twitter: Where would the world be without the joys of Twitter? From #sneachta to #FakeNews, there is a world of hashtags to keep up with! It’s our favourite for keeping up with trends, news as it happens and keeping up to speed with the fast-paced world of media. You can’t beat it really!

Canva: Canva is a free graphic-design tool website that uses a drag-and-drop format and provides access to over a million photographs, graphics, and fonts.  It is used by non-designers as well as professionals. We’re inclined to use this one more as a desktop app rather than on our smartphones.

Others:

You have to unwind somehow and here in Alice HQ, we like to dip into a few apps outside of work too. We can recommend:

Audible: Books on the go. Because we all have the best of intentions but sometimes you just don’t have the time to read the actual book!

DailyEdge: We all love an aul “How well do you know your Dáil rows?” quiz on the commute home.

Pinterest: Our favourite for interiors, fashion and design inspiration. While your budget may not match your dreams, this online visual discovery app will let your imagination flow. With over 175 million monthly users (81% female), it is growing in popularity and importance.

Calm: In the busy world of PR, we need some downtime.  That’s why one our favourite apps at the moment is ‘Calm‘. It’s actually a meditation app so not the first thing you think of when you hear “public relations” but it’s a great one helping to stay focused or if you need a quick recharge. And breathe….!
