In the PR industry, there’s nothing more rewarding than seeing a campaign or event you’ve been working on make the front pages of the national newspaper. So you can imagine our excitement last Saturday morning when we woke to see that our work wasn’t on just one front page, but two! (Think very excited children on Christmas morning!)

Our work on raising public awareness of a forgotten chapter of Dublin’s history made the front page of The Irish Times, the Irish Examiner, a half page in the Times Ireland, a half page in the Irish Mirror, and was in the Irish Independent, too.

Over the past few weeks Emily and Ellen have been working with Dublin City Council’s South Central Area Office on their events raising awareness of Dublin’s long-forgotten medieval abbey, the Abbey of St. Thomas the Martyr. No trace of the abbey remains above ground today, and the South Central Area Office and Dublin City Archaeologist, Ruth Johnson, have been working to bring the history of the abbey to life. On Friday, local school children took part in a medieval pageant through the streets of Dublin 8, which presented a perfect photocall opportunity, and thanks to photographer extraordinaire Marc O’Sullivan we captured the front-page worthy shots!

The Irish Times also sent down a videographer and captured a very sweet video with some of the children, and Ruth, which you can view here. RTÉ News2Day also came along, and there was quite the scrum of photographers scrambling to photograph the knights on horseback!

As well as the pageant, a day-long conference on the history of the abbey took place on Saturday, which was full to capacity, and a book on the history of the abbey has been published and will be officially launched in weeks to come.
