Last month we welcomed the lovely Maya McGarry, who started her internship with Alice PR.  Maya has been getting involved in a number of client campaigns and events over the last few weeks. We thought you might like to get to know her a little bit more…..

Meet our summer intern Maya McGarry

What do you study?

I am currently heading into my third year of a Bachelors in Business International, where I major in business and minor in French, at Dublin City University.

Why did you choose to do a PR internship?

PR and events have always been areas that sparked my interest, and I’ve had an opportunity to work on a few events in the past. One big factor is the diversity of the work. I’m looking forward to working on a range of projects, with a variety of clients as well as gaining experience across many different sectors. As a career path, I’m drawn to PR because it’s so social and offers opportunities to travel.

Why did you choose Alice PR?

I was particularly interested in an internship with Alice due to its inclusive and diverse culture, the variety of exciting work with some amazing clients such as Oxfam, Eurodesk Ireland, Work Equal, and SOLAS just to name a few. I was also drawn to Alice PR’s dedication to raising awareness of gender inequality, sustainability and working in the not-for-profit sector, which are all things that I feel very strongly about.

What did you do on your first week?

My first week with Alice was fascinating and memorable. The first day was spent in the Clayton Hotel for a staff photoshoot where I got to meet the whole team and attended my first staff meeting. On the second day I got the opportunity to attend my first photocall to promote a ‘baby rave’ event in Dun Laoghaire. There’s been lots of training on social media, working with clients, and individual meetings with different members of the team to get to know everyone.

What are your favourite things to do outside of work?

I would consider myself to be a very active, social and spontaneous person. I luckily live near the Dublin mountains where I love going on hikes and strolls with my dog and friends. As a language student, I also try to travel at any opportunity I get and am very excited to start my Erasmus year in Paris this coming September.
