It’s time for our weekly round-up of recommendations, and the latest #TeamAlice news!

Out and About

Lizzy started her weekend off with a hike up Ticknock Mountain. It took some time but once she made it to the summit the views of Dublin and the Wicklow Mountains were absolutely incredible! She would highly recommend the hike to anyone wanting to get some nature right outside of Dublin!

Lizzy then traveled to Galway for a quick trip to see a performance of ‘The Exonerated‘. The performance was put on in the Town Hall Theatre and was about six different people who were wrongly convicted of murder. The play was written in 2002 based on true stories. In the Galway performance, the woman who played the character of Sunny Jacobs, was actually portrayed by the women the character was based on. Sunny Jacobs and the rest of the cast held a Q&A after the performance for the audience which was really interesting. It was an extremely powerful experience and she is so happy to have been able to see it!

Eva went along to the cycling vigil outside Leinster House with many of her Green Party colleagues and cycling campaigners. The campaign groups organised a ‘die in’ to mark the 14 deaths of cyclists on Irish roads this year. Essentially, they all sprawled themselves with their bikes across Kildare Street. Here is a photo of Eva with Councillor Ciarán Cuffe and Secretary to the Executive, Eoin Wilson (after the ‘die in’ if course!).

Emily went to a Thanksgiving dinner hosted by her friends, Cliodhna and Aimee. Aimee runs Union Café in Mount Merrion, so the food was FAB. Roast turkey, multiple types of potatoes, and delicious mulled wine (YUM). Emily is now a convert to Thanksgiving – all about the eating and no pressure to get presents.

Martina had an excellent and very memorable weekend in the West of Ireland – two nights in the Lodge at Ashford Castle, followed by two nights at Lough Eske Castle in Donegal. Complete with horse-riding, woodland and sea-cliff hikes, a boat trip on Lough Corrib, archery & LOTS of nice food & wine. She highly recommends both venues – such beautiful scenery around Mayo and Donegal and so much outdoors stuff to do. Made a really nice change from city living! The Slieve League Cliffs in Donegal are amazing to visit – Europe’s highest sea cliffs. Unfortunately, they were shrouded in mist when she went, but she can just imagine the spectacular views on a clear day!

Niamh went to Musashi and it was a delightful as always, such an old reliable! She then headed home for the weekend to see her puppy..and family of course! Puppy is gone very big but still fooling them all with her cuteness!

On the Screen:

Eva has binge-watched all of Sharon Horgan and Graham Linehan’s new BBC show ‘Motherland’. It’s very clever at parts and would recommend it, though she thinks ‘Catastrophe’ is hard to beat!

Emily started watching ‘Alias Grace’ on Netflix. Set in the 1800s in Canada, it’s about a girl originally from Northern Ireland who was convicted of the murder of her employers. It’s a bit strange – very dialogue heavy and a bit of an eerie feel to it, but interesting all the same. She’s only two episodes in, so she’s not fully sold yet! Check back next week for updates ;).

Elaine has been completely engrossed in ‘I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here’. She has been loving it! Ant and Dec are playing a blinder as usual. It’s great to see them back on track!

Martina finished ALL of ‘Game of Thrones’ at the weekend. She is now in severe withdrawal and doesn’t know how she will wait to 2019 to see what happens next! The final series was AMAZING!!! She thinks she may just have to start watching the whole thing all over again to keep her going to the next instalment! Martina also watched ‘Awake: The Science of Sleep’ on RTÉ on Wednesday night and found it very interesting – lots of tips on how to improve your sleeping habits and sleep quality. And lots of scary facts and demonstrations on the negative health impacts of too little sleep. Her biggest take-away from it is to stop scrolling through her phone when she’s in bed!!!

Niamh has been loving the ‘Secret Life of Four Year Olds’ on Channel Four – it’s hilarious! They’re all such characters. She highly recommends to anyone who’s mad for cute children, like her!

In the Headphones:

Lizzy has been jamming to Taylor Swift’s new album, ‘Reputation’. She has been a huge fan of her for years, so she was extremely excited and nervous for this new album! It is definitely different than her other albums, but she is loving it. Her favourites are ‘Getaway Car’ and ‘Call It What You Want’.

Eva is completely hooked on ‘The Guilty Feminist’ podcast, thanks to Niamh’s recommendation. It’s brilliant!!! Eva recommends checking out Weinstein culture part 1 and 2 to get a sense of it.

Looking Forward to…

Elaine can’t wait for the Christmas lights being switched on in Wicklow town on Saturday. Lots of excitement! She is also looking forward to having her family over at the weekend for a nice catch up!

Eva is looking forward to a nice weekend in Paris!
