Despite the Beast from the East keeping us home and bed bound for the better part of this week, our enthusiasm at #TeamAlice hasn’t been completely dampened and we’ve still found time to see, eat and play our way around Dublin and beyond! It’s #WhatTickled time!
Out and About
Haarlem, Amsterdam – Emily spent the weekend with friends in the small but beautiful city. Highlights of her trip were Sunday spent in the nearby sand dunes and her very first escape room experience! Trapped in an old mine with the quest to find gold, it was an interesting experiment in international relations for her and her international friends. Spoiler alert: they perished. At least there were no major arguments though!
Cherry Comedy Club – Holly spent Monday night in stitches in Whelan’s thanks to their all-female line-up that was refreshingly hilarious. Sharon Mannion (of Bridget and Eamon fame) headlined the night and she had the whole room gasping for air with her inner monologue of a day in the life of a woman. It’s fast becoming Holly’s favourite way to make it through the blueness of Monday nights!
Chinese New Year in CHQ – Martina attended the festivities and would highly recommend for future years – particularly for families. There were lots of fantastic, free activities for kids and colourful displays of Chinese dancing, dragons and much more. Even the Taoiseach himself couldn’t resist an appearance!
On the Plate
Hot Bubble Café – Darragh is never too far from the best wraps in Dublin, found in this tiny café on Capel Street. Jam-packed with every topping imaginable, they’re the ultimate, satisfying filler for our busy workdays! So much so that some of the staff (to remain anonymous) have been known to dream about their fluffy deliciousness!
Brother Hubbard – Holly took herself to Brother Hubbard North for their delectable Middle East Feast last week and would highly recommend it for any vegans or vegetarians looking for a dinner with a twist! The vegan mousse with spiced chocolate soil and their halloumi chips are undeniable highlights with their Vegan Flatbread just about the most delicious thing she’s ever eaten – sold yet?
Table 24 – Emily had the most delicious meal here whilst in Haarlem, with their extensive sharing platters leaving us all drooling! Steak tartare, goats cheese tartlet, tuna steak, mustard soup, prawn croquette…and of course, no trip to Amsterdam would be complete without ALL the stroopwaffels – which Emily very kindly brought back to us green-eyed monsters in the office!
On the Screen and Stage
The Crown – Ciara’s enjoying the interesting ideas this epic offers up from a communications perspective. This week she watched the episode that documented the events that led to the Queen’s first televised Christmas Speech. Working in the profession we do, we can’t help but be enthralled by the ways one can change both your message and means of delivery to appeal to a new and younger audience.
Sive – Holly saw John B Keane’s classic in the Gaeity Theatre and was entranced by the beauty of the writing. Whilst Tommy Tiernan was (as ever) captivating and hilarious, the performance as a whole did not match the calibre of the play – perhaps one to read now and see later!
Ladybird – Holly didn’t find it difficult to understand the hype around Ladybird. Honest, nostalgic, funny and poignant, it hits so many chords for anyone who went to a small-town Catholic school and Saoirse Ronan is completely mesmerising!
That’s all from us at the end of another apocalyptic week – hope you are all staying safe, warm and chocolate-filled!
