The winners of the Irish Research Council’s 2018 ‘Researcher of the Year’ awards have been revealed.
This week, #TeamAlice was responsible for the promotion and organisation of the Irish Research Council’s second ‘Researcher of the Year’ awards, which took place at the Royal Irish Academy in Dublin.
The Researcher of the Year awards honour the very best of the Irish Research Council’s current awardees or alumni working in academia, industry, civic society or the public sector.
Environmental geographer, Professor Anna Davies from Trinity College Dublin, was named as this year’s ‘Researcher of the Year’ for her research in environmental governance and sustainability.
Dr. Karen English, who leads the Cellular Immunology Laboratory in the Institute of Immunology at Maynooth University, was named ‘Early-Career Researcher of the Year’ and Dr. Brian Egan, Senior Engineer, Wood Plc., was awarded the inaugural ‘Alumnus of the Year’ award.
Also recognised on the night were four early-stage researchers who were each awarded ‘Medals of Excellence’:
- Joanna Poetz, Trinity College Dublin, was awarded the ‘Eda Sagarra Medal of Excellence’ for her research in medieval studies.
- Hannah Prendeville, Trinity College Dublin, was awarded the ‘Jane Grimson Medal of Excellence’ for her research in the role of different lipid rich diets on anti-tumour immunity.
- Stephen Lucek, University College Dublin, was awarded the ‘Maurice J Bric Medal of Excellence’ for his research on adolescents’ use of language in Irish secondary schools.
- Rohit Sharma, University College Cork, was awarded the ‘Thomas Mitchell Medal of Excellence’ for his research in the design and synthesis of rationally-designed novel antivirals.
We’ve worked with the Irish Research Council since Spring 2016 to provide ongoing PR and events support. Our work has a particular focus on the #LoveIrishResearch campaign, which is aimed at connecting members of the public with the amazing work being conducted by Irish researchers and highlighting their achievements across multiple fields.
A warm congratulations to all of the winners from everyone here at Alice PR & Events!
