Facebook throws up some funny old reminders sometimes and last week it threw up something lovely.
Our fabulous colleague Niamh is celebrating two years at Alice PR & Events. Niamh is great craic to have around the office and as an Account Manager she has bagged some amazing results for our clients like Dress for Success Dublin, Wellfest, and The Irish Research Council
We had a quick chat with Niamh this week to ask her about her highlights, expectations and thoughts on her time working in a PR agency. Here’s what she had to say:
What has been your work highlight over the last two years?
Sorry to start on a soppy note – but my highlight from working with Alice the past two years has to be being part of the #ATeam! What a great bunch. Days can be long and sometimes stressful, but everyone works together, supports each other and just generally has your back. There’s a lot to be said for being part of good team and Team Alice are certainly that.
What is your favourite thing about working in public relations?
I love how varied the days can be. Since I started working with Alice two years ago, I actually don’t think I’ve had two days in the job that have been the same! You could be working on a press release for an NGO one minute and a radio ad campaign for an event the next. The mix of clients and projects keeps me interested. My mammy used to always say to me when I was younger that I got bored easily and I’d never last in a job that didn’t have variety… and sure aren’t our mammies always right!
What’s the best bit about Alice PR?!
Well we say it in our manifesto, but it is actually true – “we work on issues we care about and projects that excite us”… and we do, which means we can personally stay true to our own values and passions, and as a company. I think we’ve carved an identity for ourselves as an agency over the last two and a half years, and keeping this to the forefront of the work has been important in deciding the direction we go. (Any wine to go with that cheese?!)
Who influences you in terms of your job / career?
In terms of career influences, I don’t think I need to look further than our own office: A team of very successful, powerful, intelligent and funny women who like the odd pint. What more inspiration could a girl want?
One thing that you didn’t expect / surprised you about working in public relations?
One thing I didn’t expect was the huge prejudice towards ‘PR’ and the conclusions people jump to when you tell them you work in the industry. There are some widespread misconceptions that it’s all coffees, meetings and glam launches. I can confirm, after two years on the job – it is not. But I wouldn’t have it any other way! Bring on the madness…
