It’s been a bit of a manic week for #TeamAlice, but don’t worry, we still managed to have our fill of fun.  From reliving the Roaring Twenties, a trip to the Ploughing and celebrating birthdays, it hasn’t been all work and no play! 🙂

Out and about:

We finally managed to go on our staff summer social outing last week. We had planned to go kayaking, but alas the pesky weather ruined our plans so we settled for a walk up Killiney Hill to soak up the stunning views instead! We also had a little pre-birthday celebration for our very own Queen of the Land, Niamh, who turned the big 2-5 on Sunday!

Niamh had a very indulgent weekend, but then it was her birthday! On Saturday, her housemates spoiled her rotten by cooking her a big breakfast and taking her to get her nails done in 5th Avenue. Notions altogether. They all went out on the town then until the wee hours, and spent Sunday watching the match (poor Mayo)!
Martina went along to the production of the Great Gatsby in the Gate Theatre on Saturday and LOVED it! She thought the production was brilliant, and she loved how the audience got to explore the entire theatre and play a part in the play. She really got into the dressing up – she fits right in to the roaring 20s scene! Sure, wasn’t she born sometime around then?

Her real highlight though was escaping from the city to head to the Ploughing Championships. Her highlights were the various breeds of livestock they visited (after which she scoffed a steak sandwich like a true farmer’s daughter) and the robotic milking machines. We’re all disgusted with her for not bringing us back any freebies though.

Emily had her second camogie match of the championship and in a turn-up for the books, they won! She scored a goal and point and if you stand near her long enough she’ll give you a blow-by-blow account of each one. Afterwards, she watched the All-Ireland in the Croke Park Hotel and the worst part was seeing Mayo children bawling their eyes out after full-time. Next year!

On the plate:

Eva went for dinner at Bull and Beckett in Rathgar last Saturday with some friends and family. It’s essentially American cuisine and the veggie burger is quite tasty. Nice selection of craft beers, which is always good!

Niamh rounded off her birthday weekend with a burger from Bunsen, always a solid choice.

Martina was back in Dollard & Co. for a yummy dinner last night, and then she went mad and had a cocktail in Bagots Hutton afterwards! The cocktails were A1 and she really likes Bagots Hutton – it’s a great space and she would love to do a client event there.

After our jaunt up Killiney Hill on Friday we all went out for a bite to eat to Neon and totally overindulged. Great spot for a casual and tasty meal!

On the screen:

On TV:

Eva has been watching episodes of ‘Mid Morning Matters with Alan Partridge’. She had no idea that he made this series with Sky back in 2010!! Alan is back working as a DJ on North Norfolk Digital’s Mid Morning Matters, joined by co-host, ‘Side-Kick Simon’. Alan Partridge is kind of a love him or hate him kind of character, but if like Eva and Emily, you think his awkward humour is fantastic, then we really recommend Mid Morning Matters!

Emily is really stuck into The Handmaid’s Tale and is nearly finished the series. It’s really harrowing and is very well made in that it’s not an entirely unrealistic reality. She also indulged in an episode of “Murder She Wrote” when she was feeling a bit delicate after Friday night – is there anything Jessica Fletcher can’t do?

In the earphones:

Eva has discovered a podcast called ‘Decipher SciFi’ – where they explore the science/logic/maths etc behind sci-fi movies. Admittedly, it’s pretty nerdy, but really well delivered. She recommends the ‘Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure’ episode.

Looking forward to:

Eva’s looking forward to afternoon tea at the Intercontinental on Sunday for her friend’s baby shower.

Niamh is due  a weekend relaxing (and detoxing)  and maybe heading home to see our still nameless puppy for some cuddles.

Martina is hitting Galway for the weekend, she and Eva are working at Career Zoo West on Saturday, but hope to check out what Culture Night is like there tonight, too!

Emily is also overdue a lazy weekend, but has another camogie match on Sunday and is hoping for a repeat of last weekend!
