We’ve been involved with Show Racism the Red Card before Alice PR ever existed – our MD, Martina Quinn, has sat on the Board since 2012 and is currently chairperson! In case you’re not familiar with it, Show Racism the Red Card is an international anti-racism charity that was founded in the UK in 1995 with a £50 donation from Newcastle United’s Shaka Hislop.  The Irish branch was established in 2006 and the aim of the charity is to harness the high profile of sportspeople to combat racism.  The organisation works to produce anti-racism educational resources, and to educate young people through workshops and coaching activities.

Show Racism the Red Card are encouraging schools, businesses and community organisations from all over Ireland to get on board and wear red on Friday, 25th November. Participating schools, businesses and organisations are asked to fundraise in advance of Wear Red Day, and all funds raised will be used by Show Racism the Red Card to continue to challenge racism through providing education resources, programmes and intercultural activities which support integration.

Here in Alice PR & Events, we all plan on wearing a red item of clothing, as well as perhaps making a batch of red velvet cupcakes (it’s for a good cause!). We’re encouraging everyone we know to get on board and support Wear Red Day! If you don’t have any red clothing, or it’s not really your colour, you can paint your nails red, or organise an office game of keepie-uppies – put your creative thinking caps on!

Follow all of the Wear Red Day action on Twitter, using the hashtag #WRD16, and get involved  by visiting: http://www.theredcard.ie/wearredday.php.
