We’re delighted to announce that Alice PR & Events is shortlisted in the 2019 Event Industry Awards. We’re shortlisted in the ‘Best Launch Event’ category for our work on the launch of the Together for Yes campaign, which took place in March 2018.
About the Event Industry Awards
The Event Industry Awards were launched in 2009 with the aim of celebrating excellence and showcasing the very highest standards in Ireland’s events industry. According to the organisers, the Awards acknowledge “the teams, companies and clients who raise the bar for events in Ireland” and are also “a much-needed opportunity to recognise the outstanding people within the industry”.
This is the first time that Alice PR has been shortlisted in the Event Industry Awards, and we’re thrilled that this recognition comes for our work with the Together for Yes campaign.
Working with Together for Yes
Together for Yes was the national civil society campaign to remove the Eighth Amendment from the Irish Constitution. The Amendment had been introduced in 1983 and it effectively outlawed abortion in all but the most extreme cases, with severe repercussions for women’s rights.
There followed a 35-year campaign to repeal the Eighth Amendment, culminating in a referendum on this issue last May.
Nine weeks prior to the referendum – on 22nd March 2018 – #TeamAlice was proud to manage the launch of Together for Yes. This was one of the most high-profile and demanding events on which we have worked to date. It was attended by a large number of national and international news journalists, as well as prominent supporters of the ‘Repeal’ movement, including politicians, celebrities and civil society leaders.
Launching a Successful Campaign
Alice PR & Events provided full event management support for the Together for Yes launch, and also advised the campaign on media relations.
The launch took place in the Pillar Room of the Rotunda Hospital on Parnell Square in Dublin on the morning of Thursday, 22nd March. The running order featured:
- Gaye and Gerry Edwards, a Wicklow couple who travelled to the UK for an induced delivery after their son was diagnosed with a fatal foetal abnormality;
- Dr. Peter Boylan, a consultant obstetrician and former master of the National Maternity Hospital;
- Ailbhe Smyth, Orla O’Connor and Gráinne Griffin, Co-Directors of Together for Yes; and
- Retired Supreme Court Justice Catherine McGuinness.
The MC for the event was columnist and novelist, Martina Devlin.
Taking Pride in our Work
The Together for Yes campaign was focused on issues very close to our hearts.
The launch event the launch set the tone for the ‘yes’ side for the duration of the referendum campaign: Together for Yes appealed to the middle ground; was welcoming and inclusive; and emphasised the lived experiences of women.
The ‘Yes’ result in last year’s referendum turned the 1983 referendum on its head. That year, 66.9 per cent of voters approved inserting the Eighth Amendment into the Constitution. On Friday, 25th May 2018, 66.4 per cent chose to take it out.
Alice PR & Events is immensely proud to have been involved in the success of the Together for Yes campaign, and we look forward to a great night at the Event Industry Awards on 19th July.
